Masturbated Cupidity
Two characters are hanging side by side from a wall: there is an adult and a six-year old child hanging from two thin steel cables at a 45° angle from the wall. Their feet are fixed to the wall 1 meter above ground. During the performance, the protagonist wears polyester overalls and his arms are hanging lose in the air. He is breathing through a diving mask and gear. The child - also wrapped in polyester - holds a book and a teddy bear. They are 1.5 meter apart and linked by a tube that prolongs the breathing of the adult. They are secured by a PVC harness ornate with golden leaves.
The adult is hanging with his arms dangling, aimless, without muscle tone, without protection, in a diagonal position - 45° being total insecurity - destabilized, prisoner, surrounded, unrecognisable, and totally abandoned to circumstances. The child is looking at the adult and imitates him. The CO2 tube that links both characters is the prolongation of their respiratory tracts. The adult gives air, the vital oxygen and inspiration to the child. The child is holding in his hands wisdom and the transfer of knowledge.
The teddy bear represents warmth and cuddling, as well as the safety and comfort of the nest. The child is 'cloning' the function of the adult as a role model. Gold symbolises material wealth and is inspired by the eternal life of the mummies of Egypt.
